The best baby cups and beakers to help your child progress from a bottle
We’ve looked at all the sippy cups that can help wean your baby from a bottle to a proper cup and rated them.
When your little one is weaning, they will still be having milk at six months whether they are breastfed or bottle fed and gradually, as you progress to mixed feeding, they will also start to drink other liquids – and then you can move away from bottles. Some parents go straight to open cups, some to cups with lids or spouts. Some cups are great for travelling and hold the liquid firmly inside. So, what’s best for you and your baby?
1. The Doidy Cup
£5.99

This is a very old design – but that’s no reason not to get one or two of these classic cups. The Doidy is slanted, so it’s easier for your child to both see and sip the drink and it has chunky, easy-to-grasp handles. It’s a cheap and cheerful way to offer your child a cup.
2. Munchkin Miracle 360 Trainer Cup
£11.99

Though this doesn’t offer your child a true sipping experience, it does help your little one learn how to use a cup and it prevents spills. They can drink from any part of the rim and there are two good handles to grab. It comes in lots of colours, too.
3. Tommee Tippee Essential Free Flow First Cup
£10.99

This is a simple, classic design that’s basically a little cup with a flip-up spout and handles. Use it with the spout for younger babies and then remove the lid for an open cup. Beware, it’s not leak-proof when the spout is raised and it is quite small but it’s a good size for your child to hold.
4. MAM Starter Cup & Glow Handles
£6.99

This bridges the gap between a milk bottle and a cup and your child will find it familiar and comforting. The top has a spill-proof spout and it’s easy for your little one to drink as fast or as slow as they want to. It’s easy to hold and it also glows in the dark. It doesn’t hold very much, so best for early cup training.
5. Munchkin Click Lock Tip & Sip Cup
£12.99

With a valve inside to ensure that it’s spill-proof, this has an internal straw. It is weighted to make sure the straw stays in the liquid and it can be held at any angle. It is more fiddly to clean than open cups, as you have to ensure the lid and straw are thoroughly cleaned.
6. PandaEar Open Cup
£8.95

This is a lovely design that’s easy for your little one to grasp with its non-slip bumps and it comes in some nice soft colours, too. It will be spilled frequently in the early days of course but it’s a good way to transition from a bottle to a proper cup that can be used for several years without several different gadgets in between. It’s weighted at the bottom too and dishwasher safe.
